Terms and definitions for POS/POP advertising

Not even professionals in the area agree on all of the terminology. Perhaps the most prominent example are the abbreviations of POP (point of purchase) and POS (point of sale) - basically referring to the same thing, either from the viewpoint of the seller and or from the viewpoint of the buyer. So we simply use POS/POP.

Did you know? The average market offers products of about 1700 brands, however a buyer will only notice about 150 of these brands during a single visit – and one of the major factors determining which brands will be noticed are POS/POP materials. We can help you correctly advertise your products.

One of the definitions states: POS/POP items include all physical advertising activities available at the point of sale, in the sales area. They do not include materials used within shopping centers, in access roads or adjacent locations.

Recent study (Shopper Engagement Study Czech Republic 2015; POPAI CENTRAL EUROPE) targeted the shopping behavior of 3255 respondents with respect to 34112 products directly in supermarkets and hypermarkets, and audited 1309 POP media. Their results among others showed that:

  • The average time spent shopping is 27.5 minutes.
  • 36% of buyers enter the shop without any sort of shopping list (on paper, in their head, electronic).
  • 52 % of buyers enter the shop to make a quick buy (purchase of several products; without any significant preference of a specific brand and products) or for a so-called inspirational buy (look at the offers and perhaps buy something).
  • 59% of purchases is impulsive, based on a decision made at the point of sale.
  • Sale of goods supported by POP materials increases by 45% on average

We offer all kinds of cardboard POS/POP materials. We can also offer other products made of cardboard and pasteboard, such as individualized gift and advertising packaging or a complete solution of exhibition installations. We can design and construct the products, create samples, and subsequently start production in small or large series. We will offer you a customized offer.
